Environmental Experts Dismiss the Threat of Man-Made Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC, Sep 19 — When politicians support a scientific theory, take it with a grain of salt. Their reasons are more than likely to achieve political goals. Take the controversial issue of climate change.

Patrick Moore was there when the controversial organization known as Greenpeace was officially established back in 1971 with the goal of ensuring “the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.” He was a co-founder and president of the organization, which became a powerful political movement that Moore, ultimately, was not willing to accept and it caused him to take his leave.

Moore has a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of British Columbia and in 2005 North Carolina State University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Science; he has an international reputation as an expert when it comes to the environment and climate change, says The Epoch Times.

He told the Times recently that “Greenpeace was ‘hijacked’ by the political left when they realized there was money and power in the environmental movement. [Left-leaning] political activists in North America and Europe changed Greenpeace from a science-based organization to a political fundraising organization.”

“Very few people believe the world is not warming. The record is clear that the world has been warming since about the year 1700, 150 years before we were using fossil fuels. 1700 was the peak of the Little Ice Age, which was very cold and caused crop failures and starvation. Before that, around 1000 A.D., was the Medieval Warm period when Vikings farmed Greenland. [And] before that, around 500 A.D., were the Dark Ages, and before that, the Roman Warm Period when it was warmer than today, and the sea level was 1–2 meters higher than today,” Moore said.

He dismisses the notion that man-made climate change is making the earth dangerously warm. On the contrary, he says, the earth is colder than it was in the past and carbon dioxide is lower than it has been in the planet’s history. “But you would never know this if you listen to all the people who benefit from the lie that the Earth will soon be too hot for life and that CO2 will become higher than in Earth’s history,” Moore said.

The history of climate change politics goes back more than a century. Dr. Steven Allen, a distinguished senior fellow at the investigative think tank, Capital Research Center, tells us that as far back as 127 years, for example, the New York Times was running stories with headlines such as “Geologists Think the World May Be Frozen Up Again.” In 1932, “the Times warned Melting Polar Ice Caps to Raise the Level of Seas and Flood the Continent.” By the middle of the last century, scary media coverage of climate change was on the rise. In 1958, for example, Harper’s Magazine was predicting The Coming Ice Age. “Generations of journalists promoted ‘scientific’ claims about the climate apocalypse. They should apply the first rule of both science and journalism: At all times, be skeptical.”

Back to Patrick Moore. When discussing the history of climate change, the “doomsayers” use a timeframe that goes back only to 1850. They call the eras prior to the mid-19th century the pre-industrial age, Moore said. “This ‘pre-industrial age’ was more than 3 billion years when life was on the Earth. Many climate changes [occurred during that period], including Ice Ages, Hothouse Ages, major extinctions due to asteroid impacts, and other unknown causes. Today, the Earth is in the Pleistocene Ice Age, which began 2.6 million years ago … so the most recent major glaciation, which peaked 20,000 years ago, was not the end of the Ice Age. We are still in the Pleistocene Ice Age no matter how the climate alarmists wish to deny this.”

Once upon a time, I supported Greenpeace even though I did not always agree with their tactics. Patrick Moore is correct that such organizations did force polluting corporations to stop being irresponsible, until Progressives took over.

Climate change, of course, the climate is changing – why? When I hear it’s the worst weather since 1992 that tells me this happened before. So what does man have to do with it and what can man do about it? We can go to Mars, run around on the moon but we don’t seem to have any real knowledge of the weather or how to control it or even influence it a little. We can move the trajectory of asteroids, but we can’t move a hurricane or tornado even a few miles from a populated area or over a wild fire area. So maybe we should put some of our money into something that can actually help us for a change. Maybe we can change the weather. The climate is still probably a little beyond our grasp but I think we are doing our best to screw it up. It wouldn’t hurt to back off of a few things and green up the planted a little.

Nooooo, tell me it’s not true! Man didn’t destroy the climate? OK, I already knew that. Why? Because GOD created this climate and the whole world. Only HE can destroy it. Unless those who believe in all this believe THEY are God. And for all those who still think climate change is real, (follow the money) you better hope and pray that there is never a world nuclear war because then the climate will really change and your efforts to put it back together again will be much harder.

Yes God is the creater/master of this ever changing earth including climate. The Bible describes nuclear war… and nothing about climate change. God used water during Noahs time time he punished man and said the next time would be fire.

If you offered scientist grant money to prove global cooling you would get scientific papers supporting same.

When I attended grade school in the 50’s our weekly science reader had articles on the coming ice age.

“climate change” is an ‘act of God’. Only God can perform ‘acts of God’.
Pray for an ‘end to climate change’, then vote for an end to abortion.

The real question here is why doesn’t the reporter here, AMAC, John Grimaldi, care about the truth?

He has chosen to be a sycophant. For money. What is lower than such a creature?

Patrick Moore has played this reporter for a fool:

“Look at it this way: More than 600 coal-fired electric plants in the United States
produce 36 percent of U.S. emissions — or nearly 10 percent of global emissions — of
CO2, the primary greenhouse gas responsible for climate change.”

the fact is man made global warming has been disproved 7 times in the last 50 years.

the man made global warming cultists just view it as their religion and the democrats view it as a great way to tax more, bribe more, and make money off corruption.

if you really want to know about climate drivers go research the milankovitch cycles, the amount of gases the earth natural produces and the impact wild fires and volcanoes have on climate. those things account for 99.95% of climate.

everyone should buy them.

Mark Washington state is a ultra extreme liberal state and Seattle is the ultimate liberal city. Washington state government has been democrat for 50 years. they all believe as you do, well in the press anyway.

Seattle recently finished a tunnel they had been designing and voting on since 1985. it is 4 miles long. the entrance is right on the waterfront the majority of he tunnel is 10 feet below sea level. the entrance is 8 feet above sea level.

Mark those ultra extreme Washington state democrats know climate change based on man made global warming is BS. If you listen to their speech that tunnel should already be underwater. If you look at their actions they know the tunnel is not goign to be underwater.

Mark you are in a cult.

I’ll let Patrick Moore defend himself. You seem brain-washed and unable to read and comprehend. Re-read the above article and try to understand that climate change is a hoax and a political trojan horse of the money grabbers of the world. This one article is among many if you will read and understand what the co-founder and president of Greenpeace is telling you. It has been high-jacked and turned into a political animal not for good, but for political power which is corrupting and destroying not the environment, but freedom and liberty and your standard of life. The Sierra Club is another, high-jacked organization. There are numerous ones attempting to cash in. Some people can’t wrap their heads around the idea that they are being played for nefarious activities. You may fall in this group. Reflect and Think, before you speak. Your life may depend on it.

you are wrong.

now i understand you really really believe, but you ridicule religious people for believing in the bible and god.

guess what: people who understand the facts about climate ridicule you the same way cult boy.

Mark my family has owned a home at ocean shores Washington for about 100 years. it is three feet above sea level; always has been. since the 1960 people have been saying the ocean woudl rise 5, 10, 15, 20 feet. every few summers we hear some giant ice shelf, glacier, or whatever is goign to break off and cause an 3 foot sea level rise. 30 years ago Al Gore claimed death valley woudl be full of sea water in 10 years.

Guess what Mark the climate cultist? the house is still 3 feet above sea level.

Mark when do you admit you are wrong?

I bet your the kind of guy that goes out to buy red paint, comes home with pink, and claims he got the right color. Mark its not red paint and your climate crisis is fake.

yup, it is so strange. every summer in July and August we have to listen to the: “OMG its hot it must be global warming”! then fall shows up and it starts raining and its omg it weird weather. then winter shows up and it is omg Seattle never gets snow or look at all the snow in Pittsburgh. then spring comes and it’s the hottest, coldest, rainiest, whatever spring on record.

Folks it is hot in summer, Seattle gets snow most years, it rains in the fall and spring. Get over your silly climate crisis.

The “ostrich with its head buried in the sand” syndrome apparently is alive and well. Yes, there are and have been natural swings in the climate of earth over time. However, today there is the added dimension of mankind and the impact we are having on climate. It is incontrovertible that CO2 levels have been rising directly as a result of burning fossil fuels. It is also incontrovertible that CO2 acts as a greenhouse gas.

The fallacy of the “climate change deniers” is that they fail to separate the natural climate cycles of the earth from the manmade impacts being superimposed over these natural cycles. It is the activity of mankind that is “fueling” (excuse the pun) the rapid climate change we are experiencing today. Their continuing denial will only serve to impede any meaningful course correction mankind must do in order to mitigate extreme climate change that is here now and on our horizon.

The evidence is already here and visible to everyone. Hurricanes and monsoons are becoming more intense, glaciers and ice caps are melting at an accelerated rate, and the Antarctic ice sheet is also melting and calving off large chunks of ice into the ocean, all due to rising temperatures. The ocean is becoming more acidic due to increased CO2 absorption, killing off coral reefs and adversely affecting fish populations. There are more intense floods and droughts throughout the world today than just a few years ago. We should expect such climate dislocations to become worse over time.

As long as there are chicken littles running in circles creating false crisis, there will be lemmings like Ed J who follow blindly. The earth’s climate has and is always changing due to naturally occurring factors like the fact that our north/south axis is actually wobbling over a 35,000 year cycle sometimes pointing more towards 11:00 and sometimes pointing towards 1:00 to use a clock analogy. These facts are indisputable and documented in books having nothing to do with the climate change “crisis”.
And as far as CO2, goes, CO2 is a natural gas used by plants to grow. Aquariums use CO2 bubblers to introduce needed CO2 into the water so aquatic plants will grow better. It doesn’t turn the water acidic and it doesn’t kill the fish as Ed here seems to believe. Other chemicals released into the water are the cause of that.
Everyone wants clean water, and everyone wants a clean environment. But the people Ed obviously support want to use this made-up “crisis” as a means to gain political control. Hey Ed, ever wonder why the climate penalties are only imposed on the free western countries and not the biggest sources of pollution such as India and China? Ever wonder why the ridiculous change mandates are only against the free countries? Ever wonder why the climate change “crusaders” like Kerry or Biden have carbon footprints 100x more than the average person, but they never seem to do anything to change that? Ever wonder why Miami isn’t submerged under a foot of water by now as projected? Ever wonder why climate change is blamed for creating more forest fires when other government agencies report that 95% of those fires are caused by people? Do you ever think?
Didn’t think so.

Yes, I read the article. Yes, I do know more than you guess. My education through extensive graduate work was as a research scientist across a broad spectrum of biology, chemistry, physics, etc. I am well versed in the scientific realities of what is happening with regard to climate change. Those of you who are naysayers are part of the problem, not part of the solution. Sorry, your ignorance leads you to believe otherwise. You really need to get your head out of the sand and look at the objective science that is so broadly based that confirms climate change is a reality.
